Mixing things up a bit (December 4th)

We have rescheduled the game with the Junior and Intermediate teams for this Saturday, December 4th.  We will mix the players together to make two teams.  Bob will be Chief Referee this game!!

Game time is 9:00 am.

Please bring both sweaters (red and white).

Please see note below regarding registration for the Newmarket Nighthawks 2021-2022 season.  It is definitely going to look very different this season and we will be taking it day by day.  We will do the best we can considering The Town of Newmarket and all public health guidelines and regulations around COVID-19.

Please remember if families decide not to register their athlete for this season, you will not lose your “spot” with the Nighthawks.

Nighthawks families, its almost time to lace up the skates and get back on the ice. Please remember that registration is all online and NO paper copies will be accepted due to safety measures. Registration is open until Friday October 15th when it will be paused at 6pm until Sunday October 17th, the same will happen for the next 2 weeks. This ensures our volunteers and coaches have all current registrations before the morning of practice. Below is the list of information we need before your player will be allowed on the ice. When you arrive at the change rooms for the Honda Arena our Senior parent rep Tammy Wanschura will check that we have received all registration information required before you enter.

The Nighthawks are not responsible for any protocols for entering the Magna centre (see below). Players and families will need to check the Town's COVID-19 web page weekly for any changes to the protocols

Here is part of the Town's "re-opening the arenas" requirements for everyone entering an arena:

  • Participants and spectators are required to complete the Town of Newmarket’s COVID-19 Public Screening Tool prior to entering the facility. Using a smart phone or home computer (print of checkmark), participants will be required to show the screening staff their green checkmark showing they are not experiencing any symptoms. Club/association/ league are welcome to use their own screening process in addition to the Town’s screening tool if needed.  
  • Participants and guardians/spectators must wear a mask upon entry and will be required to hand sanitize their hands.  
  • Once screened; participants will have access to the dressing room hallway to make use of dressing rooms if needed or access the rink and head to the staging area A (team A) or area B (team B)  which is located on the players bench side of the arena.  
  • Participants must practice physical distancing (2m or 6 ft) while moving through public spaces, in the dressing room and staging areas.

Registration update

Hi team, thank you for those of you who have registered. Please double check that you have completed all 5 steps listed below. To ensure the coaches and registration volunteers have everything they need for safety & player information before the first day of hockey registration links will be paused from Friday October 15th at 6pm until Sunday October 17th at 8am. If your player has not completed all steps by Friday October 15th they will not be allowed on the ice on Saturday October 16th. Senior parent rep. Tammy Wanschura will be at the arena on October 16th to check players have completed all steps before going on the ice. All registration is paperless, no cash, cheques or registration forms will be accepted at the arena.

If your player will not be joining us this year please let us know. Their spot will be held until they are ready to return.

Welcome to the Newmarket-Nighthawks 2021-2022 season

Hi players and families, we hope you are all well and enjoying your summer.    

As things begin to change for the better in the world we are happy to say that hockey will be starting in October 2021. There are still many health and safety restrictions and guidelines that will need to be strictly followed. Please read all the information below carefully before completing registration. 

If you decide not to play hockey this year you will not loose your spot on the team. We respect and understand everyone's decision. If you are not returning, please email your team rep and/or coach so we have an accurate player count. 

Below are some of the changes and information about registration and return to play. All changes are based on guidelines from the Town of Newmarket, Public Health, Hockey Canada, Canadian National Special Hockey and the Newmarket Nighthawks. All guidelines need to be shared with players, parents and guardians & are subject to change at any time during the season. Please check your email weekly during the season for any updates or changes

We are playing in the Honda rink at the Magna Centre in Newmarket
All ice times are 45 minutes
Players should arrive no sooner than 15 minutes before their ice time
Ice times are as follows:
  -  Juniors
  -  Intermediates
  -  Seniors
If your player will be absent we ask that you contact your team coach and/or rep before ice time

Only 1 support person may accompany the player
The arena will have segregated seating available with limited or no access to benches
Support person must be available by cell phone at all times

Everyone entering the arena, both players and support person must show proof of vaccination and also complete the Town of Newmarket COVID-19 Public Self-Screening Tool
Facial coverings MUST be worn in the arena by players and support person

Players must arrive & depart fully dressed. Skates, helmets and gloves can be brought in a small bag. NO hockey bags are allowed
We will have access to the dressing rooms for 15 minutes before & after ice time. Social distancing of 2m will be strictly enforced
Water bottle must be filled at home and clearly labelled with the player’s name

Players can remove facial masks once their helmet is on if they wish
Players and coaches will remain at least 2m away from each other on and off the ice
Coaches will not be assisting players with anything that involves direct physical contact, eg. skates, helmets, helping up from ice
All drills and coaching will be from a safe distance

Registration will be non-contact (paperless) and all forms needed were attached to your recent welcome email.  The Code of Conduct and Liability should be printed, signed then emailed to, either a scan or a photo is acceptable.  Hard copies will not be available and will not be accepted.  
Payment will only be accepted through e-transfer to, individual receipts will be sent via email
Registration cost is $200 including a non-refundable Hockey Canada Insurance payment of $40. If we need to end the season due to Covid 19 you will be issued a refund for the cancelled weeks
Players will not be allowed on the ice if we have not received all documents by October 15th

All Covid protocols & your signed Code of Conduct will be strictly enforced 

Social distancing rules MUST be followed at ALL times on and off the ice. If a player makes physical contact with another player not in their family the player will be asked to leave the arena. As stated in the signed Code of Conduct: Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action decided by the coaches, coaching/player coordinator. Discipline could range from suspension from playing or participating in Newmarket Nighthawks Special Hockey events or dismissal from the program entirely.
